Wells is gearing up for a historic celebration this summer with its first-ever Pride event, Wells Pride 2024, scheduled for Saturday, August 3. The event represents a significant milestone for the LGBTQIA+ community and its supporters in the city.

Organised by Wells City Councillor Georgie Robbins, Wells Pride aims to provide a more intimate and community-focused atmosphere compared to larger Pride festivals. It is especially designed for those who prefer smaller gatherings or may feel overwhelmed by larger crowds.

The festivities will take place around the Bishop's Barn, an iconic recently reopened venue. The event will feature live performances from queer musicians on the bandstand and students from the local Portway Music School.

Attendees can look forward to a diverse range of activities, including stalls from queer business owners, drag performances, and creative workshops like painting on canvases. Councillor Robbins encourages everyone to participate actively, with opportunities to join in playing music alongside live bands.

The future Mayor of Wells, Jasmine Browne, will conduct the official opening. Since announcing the event, Councillor Robbins has reported an overwhelmingly positive response from the community, with many sharing their excitement and support.

"I'm really excited to bring an event like this to Wells," said Councillor Robbins. "I want people from all walks of life to feel like they belong in this city, and I feel like it's going to be a really special day."

The full day's schedule is packed with activities across four locations: Bishop's Barn for workshops and wellness sessions, the main venue for music, Strangers with Coffee for acoustic sets and a safe space, and the Sheep and Penguin for the after-party. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnics to the park, where a coffee cart will also be available.

The pride walk will begin at 2pm promptly, and participants are encouraged to bring flags to celebrate diversity and inclusion.
