Wells school proposes nursery for up to 40 children
By Laura Linham 2nd Oct 2026
Stoberry Park School could provide nursery places for up to 40 children under proposals being put to families and residents in Wells.
The Academies for Character and Excellence Trust wants to extend the school's age range from four to 11 to two to 11, with nursery provision starting in September 2027 if approved.
The nursery would be part of the school and trust's arrangements. The proposal aims to support children's transition into Reception and provide continuity through to Year 6.
Somerset Council says the change would not reduce the number of primary school places available. Children attending the nursery would still need to apply separately for Reception.
Funding would come from existing trust resources alongside nursery funding. The trust already provides early years education at other schools.
The consultation closes on Friday, 2 October. Responses will be reviewed before the school and trust decide whether to submit a formal application to the Department for Education. Citizen Space
Parents, carers, staff and residents can give their views through Somerset Council's consultation page.
