By Laura Linham 3rd Nov 2026
Drivers in Wells are being warned of city-centre road closures on Sunday, 8 November, for the annual Remembrance Sunday parade. The closures are scheduled from 8am to noon and will affect roads around St Cuthbert Street, the High Street and Cathedral Green.
St Cuthbert Street, Market Street, Priest Row, Mill Street, Guard House Lane, High Street, Sadler Street, Cathedral Green and St Andrew Street are listed for closure. Queen Street will close between St Cuthbert Street and Market Street.
A service at St Cuthbert's Church will begin at 10.15am, followed by a two-minute silence at 11am and wreath-laying at the War Memorial. The parade will include the Wells Civic Party, veterans and Armed Forces personnel.
The procession will travel up the High Street, where the Mayor of Wells will take the salute alongside the Civic Party. It will then continue to Brown's Gate and the Harry Patch Memorial.
The council has asked people to plan their journeys and allow extra time when travelling through the city centre. On Wednesday, 11 November, Wells City Council and the Royal British Legion will hold a Remembrance Day observance at the conduit in Wells Market Place from 10.55am.
