Wells is set to make history with its first-ever Pride event, Wells Pride 2024, taking place this Saturday. This landmark occasion marks a significant milestone for the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies in the city.

A Unique Pride Experience

Organised by Wells City Councillor Georgie Robbins, Wells Pride aims to offer a more intimate, community-focused atmosphere compared to larger Pride festivals. It is designed for those who prefer smaller gatherings or may feel overwhelmed by larger crowds.

The festivities will be centred around the iconic Bishop's Barn, a recently reopened venue. The event will feature live performances by queer musicians on the bandstand, including talented students from the local Portway Music School.

Activities and Attractions

Attendees can look forward to a variety of engaging activities, such as stalls showcasing queer business owners, drag performances, and creative workshops like painting on canvases. Councillor Robbins encourages everyone to actively participate, offering opportunities to play music alongside live bands.

The future Mayor of Wells, Jasmine Browne, will officially open the event. Since the announcement, Councillor Robbins has received an overwhelmingly positive response from the community, with many expressing excitement and support.

"I'm really excited to bring an event like this to Wells," said Councillor Robbins. "I want people from all walks of life to feel like they belong in this city, and I believe it's going to be a really special day."

Event Schedule and Details

The full day's schedule is packed with activities across four locations:

  • Bishop's Barn: Workshops and wellness sessions
  • Main Venue: Music performances
  • Strangers with Coffee: Acoustic sets and a safe space
  • The Sheep and Penguin: After-party

Attendees are encouraged to bring picnics to the park, where a coffee cart will also be available. The pride walk will begin promptly at 2 p.m., and participants are encouraged to bring flags to celebrate diversity and inclusion.

Join the celebration and be part of this historic event, as Wells embraces a day of pride, unity, and inclusivity.
