Wells has been named the best small city in the UK for a mini-break, according to a recent survey by consumer group Which?

The city topped the poll with an impressive score of 86 percent, surpassing well-known destinations such as Durham and St Andrews.

The historic 850-year-old Wells Cathedral, the seat of the Bishops of Bath and Wells, was a key factor in the city's top ranking. The Which? survey highlighted Wells' lack of crowds, abundance of cultural sites, tourist attractions, and quality accommodation options as reasons for its high score.

Despite this, the city received three stars for its food and drink offerings.

Key attractions that contributed to Wells' top ranking include Wells Cathedral, known for its stunning Gothic architecture and historic significance, the Bishop's Palace and Gardens, offering a serene and historic setting, and Vicar's Close, the only complete medieval street in England, adding unique charm to the city.

Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to explore these sites, as well as Milton Lodge Gardens, the city's bustling marketplace, and Cedars Hall performance centre.

The average hotel stay in Wells is priced at £93, with several accommodation options available, including The Swan Hotel, Crossways, The Wookey Hole Inn, The Sheep and Penguin, Wookey Hole Hotel, and The Cross at Croscombe.
