Wells Moat Boat Race volunteers seek fete stalls
By Laura Linham 10th Jun 2026
The volunteers who saved the Wells Moat Boat Race are now hoping to bring back even more of its old fete-day fun.
Organisers want local charities and community groups to take part on Monday, 31 August, with stalls on the bandstand side of the Recreation Ground.
The event is already known for homemade rafts, brave crews and the ever-present question of who will end up in the water.
Now the team behind it wants to revive the community fete atmosphere alongside the race.
Organisers are contacting local charities and other groups that may want to attend, raise their profile and fundraise on the day.
There are also hopes for live music on the bandstand to keep crowds entertained throughout the day.
Stalls will be free of charge.
If you would like a stall on Monday 31st August free of charge then please email [email protected].
Food providers will be based in the Market Place.

The Wells Moat Boat Race is already promising rafts, splashes and mild peril. Now organisers want to bring back the fete fun too — and frankly, Splat the Rat has been away from polite society for long enough.
