Police say a suspect detained over attempted shoplifting at Morrisons became violent before being arrested at the scene.

A man has been charged after Morrisons staff in Wells detained a suspect over an alleged attempted shoplifting incident at the weekend. Police said the man then became violent towards staff before officers arrived and arrested him at the scene.

The suspect was taken into custody and has since been charged with attempted shoplifting and assault.

Police thanked Morrisons staff for their quick actions during the incident and also thanked the wider community for its continued support.
