The Loft Café — nestled above the cloister at Wells Cathedral — has bagged a Gold award in the Café/Tearoom of the Year category at the 2025/26 Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards.
Judges singled out the café for its warm welcome, atmospheric setting and commitment to quality. The Loft's cozy interior, sweeping views of the West Front and Bishop's Palace moat, and menu of homemade treats using locally sourced and Fairtrade produce proved irresistible.
On offer are light lunches, cream teas, cakes and pastries — not to mention sustainably‑sourced coffees, speciality teas, and indulgent hot chocolates. The café runs a loyalty scheme (every fifth hot drink free) and welcomes four‑legged diners with biscuits and water. Profits from The Loft go straight to supporting the work of Wells Cathedral, meaning every visit helps maintain one of Somerset's most historic landmarks.
The Loft team thanked customers and the wider community, saying this award is a tribute to their continued support. They encouraged locals and visitors alike to drop in over the festive season for seasonal specials and a welcoming atmosphere.
