Wells housing scheme moves forward with plans for 77 homes
By Laura Linham 29th Oct 2026
Plans for 77 homes off Glencot Road at Wookey Hole have been submitted, taking a previously approved housing scheme to its next planning stage.
Curo Enterprise is seeking Somerset Council's backing for the detailed proposals, which include public open space, landscaping, drainage and associated infrastructure. The application was registered on 15 October.
The site already has outline permission for up to 78 homes, granted on appeal in September 2025. The latest submission is a reserved matters application, seeking approval for the development's details rather than establishing the principle of housing on the land.
When marketed earlier this year by Greenslade Taylor Hunt, the site was described as approximately 6.8 hectares, or 16.8 acres, just over a mile from Wells city centre.
The land comprises two agricultural fields and a central parcel of land. The earlier approved scheme provided for access through a new junction from Wookey Hole Road.
The sale particulars described a mixture of open-market and affordable housing, with most affordable properties intended for social rent and the remainder first homes.
Somerset Council has yet to decide Curo's application. Its register lists a determination deadline of 14 January 2027, with the latest advertised consultation period ending on 18 November.
Residents can inspect the proposals and submit comments through the council's planning register, using reference 2026/2006/REM.
