Wells He-Man screening to raise cash for Medicinema
By Laura Linham 1st Jun 2026
A special charity screening of Masters of the Universe is coming to Wells Film Centre on Wednesday, 3 June, in the city where key scenes were shot.
The event is being held in aid of Medicinema, the charity which brings cinema experiences to patients in hospitals across the UK.
The big screen outing for the 80s cartoon favourite, set on the magical planet of Eternia, will give He-Man fans and local residents the chance to see the film in the place where part of it was made.
Masters of the Universe filmed at Wells Cathedral and Wookey Hole Caves last summer, with support from Screen Somerset, Somerset Council's film office.
The cast includes Somerset actor James Purefoy as King Randor, He-Man's father.
Tickets cost £10 and include a glass of wine or juice. Doors open at 6.30pm, with the film starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets can be booked here.
The film is one of a number of productions supported by Screen Somerset, which works to encourage, facilitate and celebrate filming across the county.
Somerset Council said film and TV productions brought an estimated £6.6m of spend into the county in the last financial year, with much of that expected to have gone into hotels and hospitality.
The council said screen appearances can also support local tourism and employment.
Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset Council's lead member for economic development, planning and assets, said: "We're building Somerset's reputation as a film-friendly county - a place where filmmakers want to come to and then come back to.
"Filming brings spend, supports jobs and helps put Somerset on the map. The city of Wells is one of our most iconic locations and a film like this shows it can accommodate even the very biggest productions."
Masters of the Universe is released in the UK on 3 June.
It stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Camila Mendes as Teela and Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-At-Arms.
