Disco Down Memory Lane Brings Community Together At Crandon Springs Care Home

Crandon Springs Care Home in Wells was filled with music, laughter and dancing as residents, staff, relatives and community guests came together for the much-anticipated Disco Down Memory Lane event, held during national Dementia Action Week in May.

The afternoon was a wonderful celebration of community spirit, with everyone throwing themselves into the fun. The dance floor was busy throughout, with guests showing off their moves, and for those who needed to stay seated, chair dancing proved just as popular.

There was party food, glow sticks and disco lights, and a surprising highlight for some was the appearance of hula hoops, which drew cheers and plenty of laughter as residents, staff and visitors gave it their best go. The energy in the room was infectious, and the atmosphere truly special.

Resident Gillian summed up the mood perfectly: "I haven't had such a great time dancing like this in years", and fellow resident Wendy agreed: "We all had such a good time, so much fun, I really enjoyed it."

Crandon Springs General Manager, Darius Ivana, reflected on what made the event so meaningful: "Events like this are so much more than just a party. For people living with dementia, music is a powerful connection to memory, emotion and identity; it can reach people in ways that words sometimes cannot. But the joy we saw on Friday belonged to everyone in the room: residents, families, staff and guests from the wider community. That sense of togetherness, the laughter, the dancing… it's a reminder of what life in a care home can and should feel like. We are proud of what we created together."

The event underlined Crandon Springs' commitment to being an active and welcoming part of the local community, and the home is keen to build on that momentum. Businesses, health and social care organisations and voluntary and community groups are invited to get in touch to explore how they might work with Crandon Springs to co-organise events and activities for the wider community, whether fun, informative or supportive in nature.
