Wells groups encouraged to apply for grants to support local community projects
Local community groups and voluntary organisations in Wells are being urged to apply for grants of up to £2,000 through the Mendip Hills Fund, which has just opened its latest round of funding.
The fund, which is aimed at supporting projects that benefit the environment and community facilities, is available for initiatives across the Mendip Hills National Landscape and nearby areas, including Wells. Applications are open from October 1 to December 2, with decisions to be made in early 2025.
Jim Hardcastle, Mendip Hills National Landscape manager, said: “Recently, the fund has helped scout groups, two art projects, and given opportunities for isolated people to help with conservation work, so a little bit of money can really help create strong community networks.”
Last year, £12,450 was awarded to nine different projects through the Mendip Hills Fund, which is supported by contributions from local campsites, outdoor activity centres, and event organisers.
Groups in Wells looking to support local wildlife, improve community facilities, or launch social enterprises like food initiatives are encouraged to apply.
To find out more or to see if your project fits the criteria, visit the Somerset Community Foundation website or call Jim Hardcastle on 01761 462338 or Kirsty Campbell on 01749 344949.
