To revitalise a historic site in Wells, a planning application has been submitted to convert the former post office in the Market Place into a restaurant.

The application outlines a series of internal modifications to accommodate the restaurant. These changes include the removal of specific internal walls, the introduction of new openings in existing walls, and the installation of a new mezzanine and upper floor designed to enhance the dining experience.

Additionally, the plan includes installing modern kitchen equipment and minor external alterations, primarily focused on adapting the building from its previous post office function.

The site, covering an area of 115m², holds historical significance in Wells' commercial history and contributes notably to the Market Square streetscape. The planned alterations, while substantial internally, aim to maintain the building's external aesthetic and historical essence.

The proposed design, as per the planning application, seeks to transform the former utilitarian space of the post office into a welcoming and light-filled restaurant.

The application has been submitted by a Bradford-on-Avon planning agent and has the name 'Ravello' drawn on the submitted plans for the exterior of the building.

Ravello appears to be a Bradford-on-Avon restaurant that offers Italian dining, although the owners have yet to confirm that they are behind the application.

You can view and comment on the application here.
