Wells firewalk fundraiser to light up Cathedral Green in April

Locals are being urged to find their "inner fire" at a fiery fundraiser on Wells Cathedral Green this spring—all to raise cash for a life-saving Somerset charity.
The dramatic Firewalk challenge takes place on 17 April 2026, with all proceeds going to the South & West Eating Disorders Association (SWEDA)—the only specialist support service of its kind in the South West.
The event kicks off at 6 pm, with a 90-minute briefing from Firewalk UK before walkers hit the embers at 8 pm, just as the sun sets behind the cathedral. A samba band and Rock Choir will bring the noise, while stalls serve up food, drinks and raffle prizes.
Every participant is asked to raise at least £150, which SWEDA says is enough to fund both a private counselling session and a support group for up to six people.
Spaces are limited, and the charity says demand for its services across Somerset is rising fast.
"This is more than a bucket list moment," a SWEDA spokesperson said. "It's a chance to make a real difference."
