Wells City Council has cancelled tomorrow's market due to high winds and unsafe weather conditions.

The decision was announced today, following forecasts predicting gusts of up to 42mph on Wednesday. The council said the safety of traders, staff and visitors remained its "utmost priority".

All options were considered, but organisers concluded it was not possible to run the market safely in the expected conditions.

A council spokesperson said: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused. We hope to welcome everyone back once the weather improves."

Traders affected by the closure are listed on the Wells markets page, where shoppers can browse products and visit individual stallholders' websites.
