Wells Film Centre Cinema is making a concerted effort to secure its future by continuing to offer its popular £5 film tickets until the end of the year.
Sally Cooper and her team announced the decision in a post on the centre's website after evaluating the cinema's summer performance, which saw uneven attendance numbers across different films.
"While we saw strong interest in films like Barbie and Oppenheimer, capturing 70% of the box office, other films didn't fare as well," said Sally and the Team at Wells Film Centre Cinema. "Your vital support has never been more important to get us into 2024."
The £5 ticket price, originally intended as a summer promotion, is now extended until December 31st, excluding Event Cinema. The hope is that this will attract a broader audience who may be enticed to try films they might otherwise skip due to cost.
"The last few weeks have again seen films playing to less than five people on many occasions," Sally and her team added. "We are confident that the next three months will bring improvement, but we must stress that we are not yet out of the woods."
To rally community support, the cinema is offering a range of options beyond just ticket sales. Gift vouchers are available for purchase online or in person, which can be a perfect gift for any occasion.
The venue is also open for Gala Preview screenings, benefiting local charities, schools, or clubs. To arrange one, you can email [email protected].
Coming soon to the cinema's website are a 'Name a Seat' programme and a Just Giving Page, offering additional ways for the community to help secure the venue's future.
Sally and her team are hopeful that the recent improvement in local traffic conditions will further facilitate community engagement. "With the traffic lights now sorted, access in and out of Wells is much improved," they said.
Looking ahead, Wells Film Centre Cinema aims to offer a robust selection of films that will cater to all ages. The team remains optimistic that the cinema can weather its current challenges with community support.
"With filmmakers once again realising the value of the big screen, we have an exciting line-up of films ahead," said Sally. "We believe that with the community's support, the future can be as secure as it was before Covid."
So if you're a film enthusiast or simply want to support a local gem, consider heading to Wells Film Centre Cinema. Every ticket purchased contributes to keeping this community cornerstone alive and thriving.
