Deputy Mayor Jasmine Browne unveils the 2023 Wells in Bloom winners in a celebration of local gardening talent

Wells' horticultural talents were on full display as Deputy Mayor Jasmine Browne announced the winners of Wells in Bloom 2023.
During the award ceremony, trophies and certificates were handed out to numerous local gardeners who have made exceptional contributions to beautifying the city.
This year's judging panel was split across several categories:
- Gardens, Commercial and Community were judged by Cathy Hathway, Emma Conner, and Sallyanne Cross.
- Allotments were assessed by Maureen Bailey and David Thompson.
- Schools Awards were determined by Linda Thomas and Jennifer Owen in July 2023.
The winners in various categories are as follows:
Residential Awards
- Bishops Place Gold: Jo Brown
- Barnes Close Gold: Christopher Bryan
- Burcott Rd-Gold: Helena Grant & David Smith
Allotments
- Best Overall Allotments Winner: Sarah and David Smith
Commercial Gardens
- Gold: Wells Museum
- Silver Gilt: The Globe Inn
- Silver: The Sun Inn
- Bronze: The Swan Hotel, The Rose and Crown
Community Awards
- Gold: Heads Up
- Silver Gilt: Lawrence Centre, Anseres Place
- Silver: Wells Health Centre
- Bronze: Fletcher House
Patio Awards
- Gold: April Bennett
Wildlife Friendly Awards
- Gold: Sharon Brien
Best Overall Garden Winner
- Jacky and Dick Hodgson
During the ceremony, Deputy Mayor Jasmine Browne said, "The standard was high and I'd like to thank the judges, Town Hall staff, and of course, the entrants!"
The contest, which celebrates local gardening expertise, not only highlights individual talents but also contributes to the wider appeal and beauty of the town. Congratulations to all participants and winners for making Wells a brighter and more inviting place to live and visit.
