The Wells Festival of Running is set to return to its usual May schedule this year, offering a variety of races that cater to a broad range of runners, from seasoned athletes to families and first-time participants.

Scheduled for Sunday, 26 May, the festival promises a full day of competitive spirit and community fun, starting at the Market Place.

This year's festival will feature the traditional 10km and 5km road races, as well as a 1.2km run for children aged 8 to 12. The courses are designed to provide both a challenge for serious runners and an enjoyable experience for those newer to the sport. With staggered start times, the event is planned with families in mind, allowing parents to participate in the races one after the other.

The 10km race is part of the prestigious Somerset Series, which highlights road running across the county, enhancing the competitive edge for participants. Both the 10km and 5km races will commence in the beautiful setting of Wells Market Place, framed by the medieval Penniless Porch and the Bishop's Eye, and will finish dramatically along the Bishop's Palace moat.

Organised entirely by volunteers from the Wells City Harriers, the festival promotes healthy lifestyles and strengthens community bonds.

Runners who are interested in joining this year's festivities can register now via EntryCentral.

Whether aiming for a personal best or simply looking to enjoy a day out with family, the Wells Festival of Running offers a well-organised and spirited environment for everyone.
