Muddy Stilettos, in collaboration with Strutt and Parker estate agents, has unveiled its latest lineup of the finest places to reside in Somerset, with Wells securing the title of the number one spot.

The accolade for England's smallest city arrives with commendations for its blossoming reputation as a festival haven, hosting a variety of annual events that celebrate food, comedy, theatre, and literature.

Notably, the city's dining scene received a mention with Loaf's relaxed brunch and wood-fired supper offerings standing out.

The harmonious blend of familiar high-street brands and unique independent shops and galleries further establishes Wells as a top-tier retail destination within Somerset.

Additionally, Wells' diverse architectural landscape offers a wide range of residential options, from striking period homes to contemporary new developments. Over the past year, the housing market has demonstrated its vitality, with detached homes averaging at £591,769, semi-detached at £331,171, and terraced houses at £323,547, bringing the average property price in Wells to £349,648.

The city's cathedral adds to its iconic status, coupled with its recognition as the backdrop for the famous 'Hot Fuzz' film, which has bolstered its appeal as a tourist hotspot. The historical significance of the Bishop's Palace, alongside the proximity to the scenic Mendip Hills, presents a compelling case for those seeking the charms of urban living within reach of rural exploration.

The top five of the coveted list includes Langport, the new entry Chew Magna, Frome, and South Petherton. The remainder of the nine sought-after locations comprises Castle Cary, Hinton St George, the Widcombe area of Bath, and Bruton, known for its celebrity connections.
