Wells drivers slammed over selfish pavement parking as police issue warning

Police in Wells have issued a warning to drivers after a spike in reports of cars being left parked on pavements in and around the city.
The Wells neighbourhood policing team says complaints are coming in regularly — not just from the city centre, but from nearby villages too — with officers now calling out the behaviour as dangerous, damaging, and disruptive.
Locals say the issue is putting pedestrians at risk, especially parents with pushchairs and disabled people using wheelchairs, who are often forced into the road just to get past.
Officers also warned that the weight of vehicles is damaging paving slabs and creating trip hazards, while in many cases, badly parked cars are blocking traffic altogether by narrowing already tight roads.
"It's causing serious problems for the community," a spokesperson said. "Pavement parking makes it harder and more dangerous for people to get around safely — and it's adding to traffic chaos in areas that are already under pressure."
Drivers are being urged to think before they park, with the neighbourhood team asking motorists to show more consideration for others.
