The Wells Community Shed, a group dedicated to building, repairing, and restoring items for local causes, is urgently searching for a new home to avoid closure.

The group, which has brought residents together since 2018, is set to lose its current space in February after the charity Heads Up announced it would need the area to meet its own increased demand for woodworking facilities.

Located in South Horrington, the community shed has operated from a converted garage, which members transformed into a functional workshop by adding electrical sockets and lighting. The space has since become a hub for people to socialise, stay active, and contribute to the community, from repairing local items to assisting other charities.

Heads Up, the charity that owns the current location, acknowledged the change is difficult but explained that the growing demand for its own services has made it necessary. "The trustees' obligation is the wellbeing of the charity, and over six years, situations have changed," Wendy Attridge from Heads Up told BBC Somerset "We are committed to helping Wells Community Shed find a new space."

With just a few months to secure a new home, the Wells Community Shed is appealing to the local community for support. Anyone aware of a suitable ground-floor space that could accommodate the group is encouraged to get in touch, as members hope to keep the shed open and continue their valuable work for Wells.
