Wells will host a special event celebrating local organisations and talents.

The Wells Community Day, scheduled for Saturday, January 20th, 2024, at Wells Cathedral from 10 am to 4 pm, is a day filled with exciting activities, performances, and opportunities to discover more about what makes the city so special.

A Showcase of Wells' Vibrant Organisations

The Wells Community Day is a unique platform for the various organisations and groups in Wells and the surrounding areas to shine. Over 70 local organisations have already signed up to participate, making it an excellent opportunity for them to showcase their work, share valuable information, and attract new members.

If you're interested in getting involved and showcasing what you do, you can register here.

Enthralling Performances Throughout the Day

One of the highlights of the event is the series of performances that will take place. Schools, community groups, choirs, and bands will grace us with their daily talents. The Sanctuary and the Chapter House will come alive with a full programme of events, providing entertainment and celebrating the diverse talent that thrives within our community.

From Wookey Hole Circus and the Wells Academy of Theatrical Arts to the harmonious melodies of the Wells City Brass Band and the Wells Ballet School, the program promises a journey through Wells' cultural landscape.

Adding to the artistic tapestry are performances by Somerset Dance Umbrella, the Pop Rock Pub PRP Community Choir, and the soaring voices of the Wells Oratorio Society.

The musical notes continue with the Wells Good Afternoon Choir, Priddy Singers, Portway Music and Performing Arts School, and the Blue School Folk Group, ensuring there's something for every music lover. Not to be missed are the melodies of Somerset Flutes and the tunes of the Swan Singers, culminating in a day filled with the magic of music and the arts.

Creative Workshops for the Young Ones

For the younger members of the community, the Wells Cathedral Education Team has something special in store. They will be conducting workshops where children can create their own star lanterns. These star lanterns will not only allow children to express their creativity but also enable them to participate in the Wells Lantern Parade later that day at 6.30 pm, starting from Wells Cathedral.

The Lantern Parade

If you are participating or coming to watch, the Lantern Procession will gather in Wells Cathedral from 6.15 and leave Wells Cathedral on Saturday 20th January 2024 at 6.30 pm. The parade will move around Cathedral Green, through Penniless Porch and the Bishop's Eye, to the Bishop's Palace, and ending in the Market Place.

The Wells Community Day promises to be a fantastic celebration of local talent, organisations, and the spirit of community that makes Wells so remarkable. Join us on January 20th, 2024, at Wells Cathedral, from 10 am to 4 pm, and be part of this vibrant event that showcases the heart and soul of our town.
