As the holiday season approaches, Wells Cathedral invites you to join the festivities with a diverse range of services and events to celebrate Christmas.

Whether you're looking for music, family-friendly activities, or traditional carol services, there's something for everyone to enjoy this Advent and Christmas season.

London Concertante: Christmas at the Movies Sunday, December 17, 7:30 p.m.

Step into the heartwarming and comical worlds of beloved Christmas films, including Home Alone and Love Actually, as the London Concertante takes you on a musical journey through the silver screen.

Family Holiday Activities: Christmas Crafts Monday, December 18 – Wednesday, December 20, 10 a.m./11:15 a.m./2 p.m.

Follow the Cathedral's Christmas trail and let your creativity shine by crafting seasonal decorations to take home. Morning and afternoon sessions are available on December 18th, 19th, and 20th, with the trail open throughout Advent.

Carols by Candlelight Tuesday, December 19 – Thursday, December 21, 7 p.m.

Join the Wells Cathedral Choir, conductor Alexander Hamilton, organist Richard Pinel, and special guest George Toone for a memorable evening of Christmas carols, festive favourites, and seasonal stories. The cathedral's magical ambience, illuminated by thousands of candles, adds to the enchantment of this event.

Crib Services Saturday, December 23, 2 p.m./3:15 p.m.

Tailored for children and families, these delightful services invite children to dress up as shepherds, angels, wise men, or even superheroes for a fun-filled celebration.

Cathedral Carol Service Saturday, December 23, 6 p.m.

Experience a traditional carol service led by the Cathedral Choir, featuring congregational carols and readings that beautifully narrate the Christmas story.

Christmas Eve Sunday, December 24

  • 5:15 p.m. Carols at the Crib: Immerse yourself in the festive spirit with this atmospheric service on Christmas Eve, culminating in a procession to the Crib, with seasonal music performed by the Cathedral Choir.

  • 11 p.m. Eucharist of Christmas Night: Begin the festive season with a candlelit celebration on Christmas night, featuring music sung by the Vicars Choral and Schola Cantorum.

Christmas Day Monday, December 25

  • 9:30 a.m. Eucharist of Christmas Day: Join us for a festive morning service on Christmas Day, featuring familiar carols sung by the Cathedral Choir.

  • 11:30 a.m. Choral Matins: Embrace the tradition of Christmas morning with a joyful service accompanied by uplifting music from the Cathedral Choir.
