Wells City FC fell at home 3-1 to Ashton and Backwell on Saturday despite substitute Alex Camm scoring only five minutes from the final whistle.

The first 15 minutes of the game was a rather drab affair with nothing to note. On 16 minutes Wells suffered a major blow as Craig Herrod came off injured after potentially pulling his groin. Herrod was replaced with Hunt.

On 18 minutes, Ashton and Backwell got in down the left side and whipped in a dangerous cross but the Ashton striker blazed over on the volley from six yards.

A Mark Randall strike on 36 minutes from 30 yards was parried to safety and hooked clear by the centre half.

On 41 minutes, a defensive error from Wells' Jack Spence gave their striker a chance from 18 yards but Hodges managed to get a fingertip to it and the ball just carried past the far post.

After 45 minutes, Randall latched on to a Harry Foster flick on but sent the ball over the bar with a half volley from 15 yards.

A cross from the left on 58 minutes found itself to the far post where two Ashton players were free and their No. 10 headed the ball back across goal and into the far corner.

It was after 61 minutes that an Ashton corner was headed against the bar and Ashton were quicker to react and poke the ball over the line with Wells once again asleep at the back.

Wells got back into it on 85 minutes after excellent play by Crook on the right side and a quality pull back allowed substitute Alex Camm to slide the ball into the near post corner.

However, on 89 minutes a long ball by the Ashton defence caused confusion between Hodges and Padfield, and the Ashton striker ended up with an easy finish into a pretty much open goal.

The last action came two minutes into added time when Dale Hunt headed on to the roof off the net from a deep Jack Spence free kick.

Overall, this was a disappointing display from Wells considering the start they have had with two excellent away wins, but on the day they were second best.
