Wells welcomed the festive season in style this weekend with its annual Christmas Market, attracting hundreds of visitors on Saturday, 14 December.

The market, usually held on the Bishop's Palace Green, was relocated to Cathedral Green after a large, old tree was deemed unsafe following recent storms.

With the support of Wells Cathedral, the new location added a magical backdrop to the event, enhancing the festive atmosphere for shoppers.

The market featured a wide variety of stalls offering delicious food, drinks, and unique gifts, providing an opportunity for residents and visitors to support local traders and independent businesses in the run-up to Christmas.

Councillor Federica Smith-Roberts, Somerset Council's lead member for communities, said: "We would like to thank the Cathedral for being so accommodating and ensuring this popular event could go ahead safely.

"It was heartwarming to see so many people enjoying everything our city has to offer. The market showcased local talent and creativity, truly reflecting Wells' vibrant community spirit and boosting our thriving local commerce.

"A huge thank you goes out to all the amazing local businesses, the Diocese of Bath and Wells, Wells Cathedral, The Bishop's Palace, The Chamber of Commerce, the City Council, Somerset Council officers, and our traders for their tremendous support in making this market a success."

Cllr Smith-Roberts also encouraged residents to continue supporting Wells' local economy, adding:

"On behalf of everyone at Somerset Council, I extend my warmest wishes for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Let's continue to support our incredible local and independent businesses that make Wells such a unique and wonderful place."

For those who missed the Christmas Market, Wells' weekly market takes place every Wednesday and Saturday from 9am to 3pm in Market Place.
