This year's Wells Carnival has seen a decrease in fundraising totals, with the amount collected through coin vehicles, buckets, and online donations reaching £11,383.84.

This figure falls short of the average £11,500 typically raised over the past ten carnivals and is notably lower than last year's £14,773, which was unusually high due to a two-year gap and inclement weather in Shepton Mallet.

Interesting donations included around £130 in foreign coins from various countries and a £2 commemorative coin from the 1996 Euros competition. Additionally, £30 in old pound coins and numerous pre-decimal coins were collected, which will contribute to the fundraising effort.

The cost of bringing the carnival to Wells is substantial, with expenses including prize money, payment to collectors, traffic management, and other essential services amounting to approximately £18,460. It's evident that the street collection does not fully cover these costs, highlighting the financial challenges faced by the organisers.

The organisers have also extended heartfelt thanks to various groups and individuals who contributed to the collection efforts.

These include the Fire Brigade, Wells Community Network, local sports clubs, and several other community groups. Thanks to local businesses and organisations like Tescos, Morrisons, Tuckers chip shop, and Eagle Plant Hire for their support.

The Wells Carnival remains a key event in the city's cultural calendar, bringing together residents and visitors alike. As planning for the next year begins, the organisers hope for increased support to help cover the costs and continue the tradition of this much-loved event.
