The headteacher of Wells Blue School, has taken a significant step in his campaign against the marketing of vapes to children.
Mark Woodlock, who has been vocal about the health risks associated with vaping, is now urging for legal restrictions on marketing and selling vapes to young audiences.
Last month, Woodlock raised concerns in various media outlets, including regional and national radio, television, and newspapers, about the potential health hazards posed by vapes, especially to children. His campaign has gained momentum as the Government is currently conducting a national consultation on measures to address the rising issue of youth vaping.
Woodlock points out the problematic nature of vape marketing strategies, "When you see a bubblegum-flavoured vape marketed using cartoon characters with flashing images, that is not aimed at 45-year-old ex-smokers. That is aimed at young people. This is not permitted with tobacco."
The headteacher's concerns extend to the high levels of nicotine in vapes and the risk of children becoming heavily addicted. A BBC investigation revealed alarming findings, with children potentially inhaling more than twice the daily safe amount of lead and nine times the safe amount of nickel.
In response to the Government's consultation on tackling youth vaping, Woodlock has reached out to parents and carers of the 1,650 students at Wells Blue School, encouraging them to participate in the consultation process. He emphasises the importance of this initiative in protecting young people from the potential risks of vaping.
The consultation, which is open for public input will remain open until 6th December. Interested individuals can access it here: Government Consultation on Vaping.
