Wells Bishop’s Palace welcomes first cygnets
By Laura Linham 22nd Apr 2026
There is some heartwarming spring news from Wells — the first cygnets have hatched at the Bishop's Palace.
The Bishop's Palace & Gardens said the first of Grace and Gabriel's cygnets hatched this morning, with at least two or three spotted so far and more eggs still in the nest.
The new arrivals have already drawn plenty of attention from viewers watching the Palace's popular Swan Cam.
The Bishop's Palace said Gabriel was already on "full guard duty", patrolling the moat and keeping a close eye on the nest.
The Palace also thanked eagle-eyed Swan Cam viewers who were among the first to spot the cygnets.
With more eggs still to hatch, there could be more good news to come from the moat in the days ahead.
