Wells may not have a single headline-grabbing event this weekend, but it is quietly putting together a strong all-rounder. Friday 24 April brings a mix of creative and music events, including an art workshop at Portway Annexe and an electronic open mic at The White Hart, alongside a ticketed dinner event at Croscombe. Saturday adds a free tennis open day, while Sunday rounds things off with The Bishop's Palace Open Day, offering free entry and a full programme of family-friendly activities across the site.

Friday 24 April gets the weekend moving with a line-up that feels slightly all over the place, which is usually a good sign. In Wells, Birth Stories Art workshop is on at Portway Annexe, giving people space to share birth experiences through art and other creative work as part of a communal canvas.

Also in Wells, Wells Electronic Music Open Mic takes over the upstairs function room at The White Hart, with local musicians performing short sets across a wide range of electronic styles, so it could be gentle soundscapes, total sonic chaos, or a bit of both. For anyone who would rather sit down and be fed than stand around pretending they know what a modular synth does,

Dinner Dates with Kate Hunter is also on Friday at The Cross at Croscombe, with a three-course dinner and booking essential. Elsewhere, Quiz Night at Radstock Working Men's Club starts at 7pm for a 7.30pm start, with teams of up to four, £5 cash entry on the door, and proceeds going to Radstock, Midsomer Norton and District Museum Society.

Saturday 25 April is where things properly kick off, because clearly nobody fancied easing into the weekend. In Glastonbury, Glastonbury Abbey medieval fayre just days away as Saturday sells out confirms that the Abbey's medieval fayre begins its two-day run on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April, with more than a dozen re-enactment groups covering 600 years of history.

According to the Abbey, visitors can expect a grand joust, a castle siege and a Viking skirmish, which is frankly a stronger Saturday offer than most places manage. Saturday and weekend tickets have already sold out, so anyone who delayed has been beaten to it by people in cloaks.

Over at the Bath & West Showground, The Great British Land Rover Show also starts on Saturday and runs through to Sunday, with parts, accessories, vehicle builds, restorations, specialist insurance providers, overland travel advice, an off-road course, and camping. It runs from 10am to 11pm on Saturday, with free parking, under-14s admitted free, disabled carers free and dogs allowed on leads.

In Wells, Tennis Club Open Day offers junior tennis from 9.15am to 1pm and adult coach and play from 2pm to 4pm. It is free, although places are limited, because apparently even casual tennis now requires diary management. Later on Saturday, The story, songs & times of Woody Guthrie comes to Theale Village Hall near Wells, with tickets at £10 and the bar open from 7.30pm. The performance combines biographical monologue with Guthrie's music, followed by contemporary interpretations arranged and sung by Dave and Sid Plimmer.

Sunday 26 April keeps the weekend rolling, even if Saturday has already grabbed most of the glory. In Glastonbury, the medieval fayre continues for a second day, with Sunday tickets still available at the time of the article in Glastonbury Abbey medieval fayre just days away as Saturday sells out.

There's also a community clean-up taking place at the Red Brick Building as part of its recovery plans, with volunteers being asked to help sort materials and clear parts of the site as work continues to keep the building open and support tenants.

In Shepton Mallet, The Great British Landrover Show continues from 10am to 4pm, with exhibitors, the off-road course and camping all still part of the weekend set-up. In Wells, The Bishop's Palace Open Day offers free entry and a full day of family-friendly activities including hourly palace and garden tours, garden talks, outdoor games, dressing up in the palace, undercroft art activities and the Dragon's Lair play area with its new Splash Play Zone. Face painting, balloon modelling and Nature Ninjas sessions are also scheduled through the day.
