Wells Cathedral Green to host 30 classic MG sports cars
By Paul Ireland 25th Aug 2026
More than 30 pre-1956 MG sports cars will arrive in Wells next month as part of an annual autumn tour.
The cars will park on Cathedral Green in front of Wells Cathedral on Monday, 7 September, giving visitors the chance to see a collection of historic MGs brought together from across England.
Their owners are travelling to the area for a three-night stay in Bradford-on-Avon. Over two days, the cars are expected to cover more than 160 miles, with Wells and Cheddar on the route on Monday before visits to Crofton and Avebury Henge on Tuesday, 8 September.
Among the cars due to appear in Wells will be eight MG TCs, one of the best-known models represented on the tour. Organisers say 10,000 MG TCs were originally produced, with an estimated 6,000 still on the road.
The cars taking part are not being brought to Wells simply as static exhibits. Their owners continue to use them for long-distance touring, with one of the MG TCs due on Cathedral Green having completed a 2,000-mile trip to northern Italy in 2025.
The MG TC was produced in the years immediately after the Second World War, meaning examples taking part in the tour are now more than 75 years old. All of the cars due to visit Wells date from before 1956.
The Wells stop forms part of the owners' annual Autumn Tour, bringing together MG enthusiasts from different parts of England.
More than 30 cars are expected to be parked on Cathedral Green during the visit on Monday, 7 September.
