If a Wells councillor has had a significant impact on your life or the community at large, time is running out to give them the recognition they so richly deserve.

You have just three days left to put their name forward for the 2023 Local Government Information Unit (LGIU) and CCLA Cllr Awards.

These annual awards are a golden opportunity for the residents of Wells to spotlight local governance heroes on a national stage.

The forthcoming awards ceremony promises to honour the best in local government from across England, Wales and Scotland. The winners will be celebrated at two grand ceremonies in London and Edinburgh come November. For the community of Wells, this is a golden opportunity to bring attention to councillors who have diligently served their constituents.

The Cllr Awards have five different categories this year, covering everything from community involvement to exemplary long-term service. Whether it's spearheading local projects or acting as a beacon of resilience, there's a category that fits the bill. Nominations are open to everyone, including Wells residents and council staff. The process is straightforward, requiring only seven minutes of your time. All that's needed are details about the nominated councillor, the reasons they merit the award, and the positive effects they've had on the Wells community.

With the nomination deadline fast approaching on Friday, 22 September, a shortlist of nominees will be made public in October. The awards also include a Global Local Cllr Showcase, honouring exemplary councillors on an international stage.

In conjunction with its 40th anniversary, the LGIU is embarking on a research initiative, LGiU@40. This project aims to bring forward innovative ideas for enhancing local governance, culminating in a research symposium and a White Paper to be published later this year. As Jonathan Carr-West, Chief Executive of LGIU, aptly said: "Local communities simply would not function without councillors, who make such positive contributions to our lives every single day of the year."

For the community in Wells, this is more than just a chance to honour individual councillors; it's an opportunity to shine a light on the area's local governance and, in doing so, uplift the community as a whole. Don't let this moment pass. Nominations can be submitted [here](insert link for nominating).
