Every resident in Wells on the Electoral Roll has been posted a poll card inviting them to vote on Thursday January 25.

"It's not for a General Election, but for something purely local – the Wells Neighbourhood Plan Referendum," explains Adrian I'Anson, coordinator for the plan.

"If adopted by Somerset Council, this Plan will give Wells residents some control over future developments in the city and is the result of widespread local consultation with the support of Wells City Council.

"The Plan sets out a local vision for Wells and planning policies which will apply to all future planning applications.  Consultation on the Plan took place in autumn 2022 with public meetings and an 11-page summary circulated to every household in Wells."

The Plan and linked documents are available on the Wells City Council website – www.wells.gov.uk/neighbourhood-plan- and at the Town Hall and Wells Library.

The question that you are asked to respond to is: Do you want Somerset Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Wells to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?

"Wells City Council is not allowed to campaign for a 'yes' vote but hopes that residents of Wells will take the opportunity to vote at this important Referendum," said Adrian.

"If you are eligible to vote, make sure you take Voter ID with a photo (e.g. bus pass, passport, driver's licence, Blue Badge) with you.

"For any clarification, please contact Wells City Council: [email protected] – 01749 673091."
