Three crews put out a wood chipping machine fire near Wells yesterday afternoon (June 12).

Just before 3pm, Devon and Somerset Fire Service attended a wood chipping machine fire off the B3135 Roemead Road, in between Maesbury and Binegar.

Fire appliances from Wells and Shepton Mallet, and the water carrier from Yeovil, were mobilised to the incident.

On arrival, crews confirmed one machine well alight and got to work to extinguish the fire using two hose reel jets. The fire caused 60 per cent fire damage to the machine.
