Wells Moat Boat Race will be back and making a splash again this year. And there's still time to enter a team!

The Moat Boat Race was started back in the 1960s, during the tenure of Bishop Henderson. Back then, rowing boats were arranged for dignitaries, and 'Ladies' were also allowed to race in boats rather than in home made craft. There's no such special treatment these days however – everyone must run the same risk of ending up in the water!

This year's Moat Boat Race, organised by the City of Wells Lions Club, takes place on August Bank Holiday Monday (August 29). If you're thinking of entering, here are a few pictures from boat races gone by to inspire you. Just contact [email protected] for more details on how to enter.

And if you don't want to enter yourself – then just go along to watch the fun.
