On Saturday, 18th May 2024, Councillor Jasmine Browne was inaugurated as the historic 650th Mayor of Wells, with William Nuttall appointed as her Consort.

Councillor Jasmine Browne, the Right Worshipful the Mayor of Wells, brings 25 years of experience in education to her new role.

Passionate about giving young people a voice, Jasmine has chosen youth engagement as the focus of her mayoral year. She has selected the 5th/7th Wells Scouts as her charity of the year, aiming to raise funds for refurbishing the Scouts Hut on Kennion Road.

Jasmine, a former volunteer with the Scouts, is determined to support the organisation in continuing to provide life skills and opportunities for young people. She has also appointed two cadets from the 1955 ATC City of Wells Squadron—Cadet Sergeant Marshall-Smith and Cadet Corporal Colwill—to accompany her to official engagements.

The Mayor Making Ceremony featured a performance by a talented band from the Blue School, who composed their own music. Jasmine plans to involve representatives from all schools and youth organisations in Wells City Council activities, inviting them to share their views on how the council can better serve the city.

Jasmine, who moved to Wells with her parents 11 years ago, is a mother of two boys who attend local schools. Upon her installation as Mayor, she said, "To be Mayor is about public service and giving back to the community. To serve this city as its first citizen is the greatest honour I could imagine."
