The art of conversation at the 2019 Wells Festival of Literature

Don't you love listening in to other people's conversations?

Imagine finding yourself sitting behind two unlucky people on a bus and hearing that one had bought a camel in the Sahara by mistake while the other had had a chilly picnic on a Chilean glacier; the first then admits to having dined with a Zulu king while the second can't believe she failed to recognise superstar Sam Neill despite sitting next to him throughout a gala dinner.

You could imagine it – or you could witness it in the flesh at Wells Festival of Literature on Monday 21 October when Keggie Carew will be in conversation with Mark McCrum.

The festival is full of these wonderful opportunities to "eavesdrop: the In Conversation events are legendary.

You might choose to hear what Joanna Nadin (the best-selling author of young adult fiction) has to say to Tracey Thorn about her memories of being a Teenager in Suburbia - that sounds like an angst-ridden conversation.

Or perhaps you would prefer a mouth-watering discussion between Caroline Waldegrave and Felicity Cloake on the latter's search for culinary perfection.

There's plenty of chat at the 2019 Wells Festival of Literature – which will give you plenty to chat about yourself.
