Calling all young railway enthusiasts in Shepton Mallet! The Bath and West Railway at the Shepton Showground is starting a special Sunday club for juniors aged 13 and over.

The club will begin its regular meetings in November, taking place on the first Sunday of each month. However, an inaugural session is already planned for 8th October.

The club aims to give junior members a hands-on experience, offering the opportunity to operate one of the railway's three locomotives: Centaur, an electric locomotive; Shepton, a diesel locomotive; and Mendip, a steam locomotive. The chance to run these locomotives will depend on each junior member's age and ability.

These sessions will be led by experienced instructors. No regular club members will be present, ensuring a focused learning environment for the juniors. This initiative aims to provide practical experience under expert guidance, offering an educational and exciting activity for youngsters interested in railways.

For the inaugural session on 8th October, the club has only five spots available. Those interested should email [email protected] to book a place. Once confirmed, parents will be given a code to enter the Shepton Showground. The club hopes to increase the number of available spots for these special Sunday meetings in the coming months.

This is a unique opportunity for young railway enthusiasts to gain real, hands-on experience. So don't miss out—secure your spot now for this educational and fun-filled venture.
