Wells Carnival will take to the streets tonight as planned, with thousands of carnival-goers and performers likely keeping a close eye on the skies as Storm Claudia moves across Somerset.

Heavy rain has dominated most of Friday, with a yellow weather warning in place and downpours pushing through the city this afternoon. Temperatures are expected to reach around 16°C before conditions begin to shift.

Forecasters say the rain should clear at about 5.30pm, giving Wells a dry — if cloudy — evening for the illuminated procession. Temperatures are set to settle around 13–14°C, with a moderate easterly wind throughout the night.

Organisers say the show is full steam ahead, and crowds are being urged to bring waterproofs for the early evening — and some small change for the charity collectors who will be out along the route.
