What's On in Wells is brought to you by our sponsors, Studio24 in Wells and Wells Festival of Literature.

If you missed out on a Glastonbury Festival ticket, don't despair — and don't spend the weekend doom‑scrolling social media.

There's still plenty happening across Glastonbury, Wells and Shepton Mallet over the next few days. From music and theatre to markets, sport and things for the kids, this corner of Somerset has a lot to offer — and you won't need a tent or a set of wellies.

Ease your way into the weekend early with a Thursday night win: Burger Night at The Loft in Street. From 6–8pm you'll get any burger, chips, salad and a drink for £15. Ideal pre-weekend fuel or a cheat-night dinner before heading out. No judgement here.

On Friday 27 June, BRLSI in Wells will host Echoes of Tomorrow, an evening of music and conversation with Wells Cathedral School student Emma Steenkamp. The talented violinist will shed light on South African classical music and the challenges its composers have faced, offering a mix of performance and insight.

Find out more here. Meanwhile, Crandon Springs Care Home in Wells is inviting carers, older people and their loved ones to its Fish and Chips Lunch Club. The lunch starts at 12.30pm and spaces can be booked in advance — proof that fish and chips can beat a boggy field any day. Details here.

Nastee Chapel

On Saturday 28 June, acoustic duo Nastee Chapel will be bringing their 'Pub Pilgrims' show to the Rifleman's Arms in Glastonbury from 9pm until 11pm — ideal if you like a bit of foot‑stomping and ale‑swinging with your Saturday night.

Meanwhile, in Shepton Mallet, the historic Friday Market returns for its weekly slot from 8.30am to 1pm, offering fresh produce, crafts and everyday essentials. Saturday morning also brings the free 'Football is Fun' session, inviting three‑to‑six‑year‑olds and their long‑suffering parents for a kickabout after parkrun.

Sunday 29 June is packed with music across the area. At The Queen of Cups in Glastonbury, the Backdoor Blues Jam welcomes music lovers to plug in, play and join a groovy house band from 5pm to 7pm.

Later that evening, from 8pm to 10pm, The King Arthur hosts Grizzly Rhys Morgan — a man with a beard, a dobro and a reputation for blues and bluegrass.

Meanwhile, over in Shepton Mallet, the REE Community Yoga group welcomes people of all abilities every Sunday morning from 10am until 10.45am. In summer, the group meets in Collett Park, making the most of the fresh air and green space — no tent required.

On Monday 30 June, St Cuthbert's Church in Wells will host Opus Anglicanum's The Seeds of Love at 7pm — an evocative programme inspired by early 20th‑century collectors of England's folk heritage.

The concert explores the stories, songs and heritage of the era, performed by a group dedicated to preserving its sound. Details here.

The following morning, Tuesday 1 July, families can head to Shepton Mallet Library for Baby Boogie and Rhymetime from 10am to 10.30am — an inviting space for tiny people and their carers to share songs, stories and rhymes together.

Then, on Wednesday 2 July, The Bishop's Palace and Gardens in Wells welcomes The Pantaloons Theatre Company for a playful adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility.

The show starts at 7pm, with gates open from 6.30pm. Expect a fast‑paced, musical take on the classic novel, packed with humour and heart — and far fewer mud baths than you'll find down the A361. Find out more here.

And finally, if you're already planning your next big night out: Latino Heatwave Night at Studio24 is coming to Wells on Saturday 5 July. DJs YOUS and MJADE will be serving up a non-stop mix of Afrobeats, Amapiano, Dancehall, RnB and club bangers from 10pm. Smart dress only, no sportswear — and yes, tickets are already flying.

With music, theatre, heritage, sport and moments of quiet relaxation, this part of Somerset has a lot going on over the coming days. Whatever you're in the mood for, you won't be short of ways to fill your diary — and you can stay warm, dry and well‑fed while you're at it.
