Building on the resounding success of last year's festival, Wells is set to host the 2024 Sound of Wells Festival from 6 to 12 May.

Inspired by Peter Walker's Peace Doves, this year's festival boasts a packed programme including recitals, church services, a music quiz, silent movies, and concerts featuring internationally-acclaimed musicians.

The festival begins on Monday, 6 May, with the serene 'Compline by Candlelight' at 9.00 p.m., setting the tone for a week filled with musical diversity.

On Tuesday, attendees can experience 'Choral Evensong for Peace' at 5.15 p.m., followed by the 'Sound of Wells Music Quiz' at 7.00 p.m.

Highlights of the festival include 'The Phantom of the Opera' (1925), a silent film accompanied by an organ, showing on Wednesday at 8.00 p.m., and 'An Evening of Concertos' at Cedars Hall on Thursday at 7.00 p.m.

The Baroque Vocal Masterclass with Robin Blaze and the Festal Eucharist on Ascension Day are also scheduled for Thursday.

For those interested in classical music, internationally renowned violinist Rachel Podger will perform on Friday at 7.00 p.m., while the prestigious J. S. Bach's St John Passion will take centre stage on Saturday.

The festival concludes on Sunday, 12 May, with a 'Cathedral Eucharist' at 10.30 a.m. and a 'Festival Evensong' at 3.00 p.m., celebrating the centenary of Charles Villiers Stanford.

Full details and ticket information for these events are available on the Wells Cathedral website at www.wellscathedral.org.uk/soundofwells.
