Somerset woman to drive 4x4 to Ukraine with life-saving medical supplies

A Wells woman is preparing to drive a 4x4 packed with medical supplies to Ukraine to help save lives on the frontline.
Harriet Ray, who used to run Oriental Carpet before relocating, will be making the journey at the end of the month with a small team, including a close friend of her late husband.
The group is taking a Mitsubishi L200 – chosen for its off-road ability – which will be used to evacuate wounded people from areas devastated by war.
Harriet is raising money to buy Combat Application Tourniquets, known as CAT 7s. These are compact, military-grade devices used to stop deadly bleeding in traumatic injuries. Each one costs around £25.
"They're invaluable to prevent arterial blood flow in the event of a traumatic wound," she said. "Uncontrolled bleeding can be life-threatening. Having these tourniquets to hand allows individuals to provide immediate care whilst waiting for expert medical help. They significantly increase the chances of a preventable death."
Harriet has launched a GoFundMe page called Donate towards life saving tourniquets. So far, she's raised £900 from 12 donations.
Anyone who wants to help can donate online or contact her directly on 07522 658079.
