Remembrance Day services are taking place in Wells on Sunday to commemorate British Service Members who have died in wars and other military conflicts since the onset of World War I.

Remembrance Day, also known as Armistice Day, falls on 11 November, with the occasion marked every year on the second Sunday of November, known as Remembrance Sunday.

With Remembrance Sunday services organised by the Royal British Legion and local Church authorities, there will be services near residents who will be able to pay their respects and recognise the service and sacrifice of all those who have defended the country's freedoms and protected our way of life.

The services will be attended by Members of the Council and local Members of Parliament. Residents are invited to join their local commemoration of British and Commonwealth soldiers, sailors, airmen and women, as well as the members of the emergency services and civilians to ensure that no one is forgotten.

In Wells, a Remembrance service will take place at St Cuthbert's Chuch at 10.15am, beginning with two minutes of silence and the laying of wreaths. Following the service, there will be a parade to the Harry Patch memorial.

A Eucharist will also take place at 10.30am in Wells Cathedral, as well as a devotional performance of John Rutter's Requiem at 3pm, with a retiring collection made in honour of the Poppy Appeal.
