Regal Rolls Royces to roll into Wells for classic car showcase this September

One of the world's most iconic car brands will take centre stage in Wells this autumn, as a fleet of vintage Rolls Royces lines up on Cathedral Green for a one-day-only event.
On Tuesday 9 September 2025, between 10.30am and 2pm, more than 20 pre-war Rolls Royces will be on public display in front of Wells Cathedral, offering a rare chance to see these regal vehicles up close in a spectacular historic setting.
Titled Regal Rolls Royces, the showcase will focus exclusively on models built before 1940, with nothing newer allowed to join the line-up. From coach-built bodies to leather-trimmed luxury interiors and the unmistakable Spirit of Ecstasy mascots, the event promises to celebrate the craftsmanship and engineering excellence that helped make Rolls Royce a global symbol of elegance and prestige.
Organisers say visitors can expect a wide variety of early Rolls models on display, all lovingly maintained and in roadworthy condition. Whether you're a classic car enthusiast, a history lover, or just fancy seeing something extraordinary parked in front of the cathedral, this is an event that's likely to turn heads.
The gathering will take place on Wells Cathedral Green and is free to attend, with no advance booking needed. It's expected to attract visitors from across the region, and makes for a perfect day out in the city.
Dale Bray from the Wells Tourist Information Centre, who is helping to coordinate the event, said: "These cars are pieces of moving history – and having them displayed in front of the cathedral creates a real sense of timelessness. It's a great chance to appreciate both the engineering of the past and the beauty of Wells in one go."
The event will run until 2pm, so early arrival is advised for those hoping to see the full display before the cars begin to depart.
