Housebuilders have given plans for a new community skatepark in Wells a £1,000 boost.

Taylor Wimpey Bristol made the donation to the Wells Skatepark Community Group (WSCG) earlier this month.

The skatepark group is working alongside Wells City Council to improve community members' physical and mental health and increase accessibility to sports including skateboarding and roller-skating by redeveloping the existing skatepark near Waitrose.

WSCG says that Wells is long overdue a quality space for, in particular, young people to thrive, improve mental health, physical fitness, create social connection and ultimately have fun.

Beverley Smith, trustee at Wells Skatepark Community Group, said: "We are extremely grateful to Taylor Wimpey for their kind contribution towards the skatepark.

"We believe that the skatepark could provide a real focal point for our community and impact local people in a positive way. Taylor Wimpey's donation will provide a real boost to the community's fundraising efforts."

The skatepark is located around eight miles from Taylor Wimpey's Oak Park development in Cheddar.

Rob Curry, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey Bristol, said: "We are delighted to make this contribution towards the Wells Skatepark project.

"We are hopeful that the skatepark will become a hub for the community and we are really proud to support this much-needed community resource."

The Oak Park development will bring 96 three and four-bedroom homes to the area near local shops, restaurants and other amenities.
