Ponies, paws and inflatable cows: Animal encounters spark fun and laughter at Crandon Springs Care Home

Crandon Springs Care Home in Wells has recently become a hub of heart-warming animal interactions, bringing smiles, good vibes, and cherished memories to its residents through a series of delightful visits.
Therapy ponies Jammy and Sugar, from A Million Memories Pony Parties and Therapy, made a special appearance.
These gentle ponies visited residents in the lounge and then went room-to-room, offering nuzzles and affection. Their presence created a wonderful atmosphere throughout the home among residents, staff and visitors, including resident Rose's great-grandson.
Adding to the joy, Bonnie, a lovable Labrador therapy dog, recently joined residents for a game of doggy bingo before making individual visits. Her friendly demeanour provided comfort and encouraged conversations among residents, highlighting the therapeutic benefits of canine companionship.
In a unique twist, when resident Neville, a former Somerset farmer, expressed a wish to see a cow, care team member Mia donned an inflatable cow suit to surprise and entertain him. This playful gesture brought laughter, demonstrating the staff's dedication to creating lovely happy experiences for their residents.
Meg Cleal, Crandon Springs General Manager, commented: "These animal visits are more than just entertainment, they also play a crucial role in enhancing people's well-being. Research indicates that interactions with animals can decrease anxiety, stimulate memory recall, and reduce feelings of loneliness. We are committed to finding varied and innovative ways to enrich the lives of our residents. On this occasion, we've shown that a touch of animal magic can make a world of difference!"
