Looking for work in Wells? There's a surprising amount out there — and it's not all cleaning up after the cathedral pigeons. From care roles to classroom support, here's what's hiring locally right now.

If you've got a caring streak (and a sturdy pair of shoes), there's a care assistant role at a local care home paying about £14.29 an hour. You'll be helping residents with day-to-day life and companionship, keeping everything running smoothly and maybe even making someone's day in the process.

Got a head for cars and customers? Kwik Fit is recruiting an assistant centre manager on £30,000–£34,000 a year (with bonuses taking it to around £40,000). You'll manage the garage, stock, safety checks and the occasional "it's making a funny noise" conversation.

If you don't mind a late one, there's an assembly operative (late shift) job going in food production. It's £15.65 an hour for careful, clean, organised types who can work well under the hum of machinery and fluorescent lights.

Numbers your thing? A local accountancy firm is looking for a senior accountant on £45,000 a year to finalise accounts, handle VAT returns and explain things like "accruals" without rolling your eyes.

For the night shift crowd, there's a senior night carer job in a residential home paying £15.54 an hour. You'll lead the night team, administer medication and make sure residents are safe, comfortable and calm while the rest of us sleep.

Teachers and TAs are in luck too. Supply teachers are needed across Wells, earning about £190 a day, while teaching assistants are being recruited for £108 a day to keep classrooms in order and pupils on track.

If healthcare's more your thing but you prefer a leadership role, there's a senior carer (bank) position available paying £17.30 an hour, with flexibility and no two days the same.

For those who like things tidy, a local care home needs a housekeeping assistant on £14.29 an hour. You'll be part of the team keeping the place spotless — and yes, the residents will notice.

If you prefer spanners to spreadsheets, Mars Petcare's Crown Petfood factory in Ditcheat is recruiting shift maintenance engineers (multiskilled) on £43,000–£46,000. It's a proper hands-on role, with bonuses, private healthcare, pension and all the free pet talk you can handle.

And if you're an engineer with an eye on infrastructure, there's a senior drainage engineer job paying about £43,000 — designing drainage systems, flood prevention schemes and other essential-but-unseen bits of Somerset life.

So whether you're teaching, caring, fixing or just looking for something that pays before Christmas, Wells has options. You can browse all current vacancies — or post your own — at wells.nub.news/jobs.
