Children are getting a good start to their education at a nursery in Wells, the Government's education watchdog has found.

Staff and children at Cuddles & Care Children's Day Nursery in Wells are celebrating after it was rated 'Good' in its latest full Ofsted inspection.

The inspector, Stella Orfanidou, found that the children are happy to enter the nursery and are happy and confident in a 'warm and friendly setting'.

"Children form close bonds with staff members, who are kind, caring and nurturing. This helps them to feel safe and secure. Children begin to make independent choices in their play from a young age," the report continues.

There was high praise for the nursery's 'ambitious curriculum' and the exciting learning opportunities on offer.

Inspector Orfanidou also noted that children benefit from a range of experiences that "develop their independence and self-care skills" which encourages their enthusiasm for learning and supports their self-esteem and in their readiness for primary school.

She also said the teamwork by staff at the nursery was very good, and they felt listened to by their managers.

"All areas of the nursery are clean and free from clutter," she concluded when considering the children's safety. "Any hazardous items are kept out of the reach of children. Staff keep doors always locked. A CCTV system is in place for staff to consistently monitor babies as they sleep."

In order to bump their rating up to 'outstanding' the Inspector said the nursery would need to strengthen the outdoor curriculum and enhance the support for children's communication and language even further.
