Off-duty PCSO helps catch suspected shoplifter in Wells

A man has been arrested in Wells after an off-duty police community support officer (PCSO) spotted him following a suspected shoplifting incident.

The arrest was made on the afternoon of Wednesday, 23 April, after the off-duty officer recognised the man while driving home from work.

Officers from the Mendip Neighbourhood Policing team were called in and quickly made the arrest at the scene.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "If you are a victim of theft or shoplifting, please report on 101."

The force has not yet confirmed where the alleged theft took place or whether charges have been brought.
