No less than eight established and breakthrough stand-up comedians with descend on Wells this Saturday (October 5) for the much anticipated return of Silly Sausage Comedy night, at The Venue, South Street.

The comedy night, started by local mum and comedian Heather Bryson-Banks, aims to promote gender diversity, alternative comedy and breakthrough acts - while always treating audiences to some seasoned comedians too.

Headliners so far have included South West Comedian of the Year finalist, Richard James, and Edinburgh Festival hero Louise Leigh.

This month Wells will be treated to the sharp wit, and scathing impressions of James O'Donoghue - "the best depressed anarcho-communist genderqueer Jewish comedian currently gigging in the central Bristol area" described by comedy promoters as an "absolute comedy genius" and "reminds me of the great Robin Williams - but with lipstick".

Opening the evening will be Firuz Ozari "one of Bristol's favourite up and coming comedians", the sharp, witty and occasionally bizare Firuz Ozari has been described as "Tajikistan's best export (after vegetable oil)".

The 50-seater venue, which has previously sold out in advance, will also host Brendan Common whose unique stage persona, supported by his material which jumps quickly from light to dark, matching his unusual demeanour will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. This Goth comic will surprise you with his bizarre richness of his alternative worldview.

Other supporting acts include Eliza Fraser, Jon Mathews and local, Wells-based comedian Sarah Benham.

Sara is in the midst of a peri-menopausal mid-life crisis. She will happily take you on a bizarre journey that has not only ended relationships, her 25-year career, and got her sacked three times; she has been cautioned by the police, been forced to visit the food bank and found solace wandering round a disused prison by torchlight.

Sara is the often unheard voice of middle aged women across the country who got their life a bit wrong.

All the acts have strong opinions, and aren't afraid to share them - and look silly in the process.

Heather said: "I'm really passionate about this night, and so happy that local people are supporting it.

"We also do a raffle with proceeds going to the charity MIND UK."

The doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm show. Tickets are only £10 available (limited) on the door on the night, and in advance via the red button below.
