Collectively Made opened in Library Mews on Union Street last week.

Full of handmade gifts and trinkets, it's a treasure trove for shoppers looking for something a little bit out of the ordinary.

But it's not just the products that are unique. Owner Rebecca Wilshere has come up with an unusual concept to help small businesses and makers get their products to customers via the High Street – but without the risk and high costs of investing in a premises themselves – by renting out shelf space on a three-month basis.

Rebecca said, "I specialise in handcrafting dog accessories and I wanted a high street shop to sell my products. But I wasn't sure I could fill a whole shop – so I came up with the idea of starting a business that not only sells my products, but also allows other local small businesses to rent shelf space to sell their products on the high street too."

The beauty of the concept means there is a wide range of products on offer – and every sale will support a local business.

"You can shop everything from candles to artwork, jewellery to baby clothes, and even dog accessories. All handcrafted by local small businesses," said Rebecca. "With 20 small businesses under one roof, our shop will appeal to everyone, looking to treat themselves, others, or their dogs!"

Collectively Made is open from 10am-4pm, Tuesday-Sunday.
